What a great, simple recipe that packs a punch with the classic combination of chocolate and orange. Add some shortbread as a base and you're onto a winner!
Dark chocolate 200g Plain flour 150g Unsalted butter 50g Golden caster sugar Zest of an orange
To make his chocolate orange shortbread recipe, Jamie starts by putting 200 grams of plain flour into a mixing bowl along with a pinch of salt. Jamie then slices and adds 150 grams of unsalted butter and 50 grams of golden caster sugar. He then combines the ingredients by hand, rubbing everything between finger and thumb until everything is completely combined to form a shortbread mixture. Once the ingredients are all combined Jamie grates in the zest from half an orange and once again rubs the ingredients in with finger and thumb. Jamie oils and grease proofs a 20cm baking tin, he then pats down the shortbread mixture loosely into the tin aiming for about 1cm depth to form a base for the chocolate and orange topping. Jamie forks the shortbread mixture to allow any steam to escape as it cooks. Now Jamie puts the shortbread base into the oven at 190C for 20 minutes. While the shortbread is baking Jamie gets to work making the chocolate orange topping. He melts 50 grams of quality dark chocolate in a glass bowl over simmering water. He takes the shortbread out of the oven and places it onto a rack to cool and sprinkles a little sugar over the top. Jamie then greats over the other half of orange zest and drizzles the molten chocolate over the top with a spoon. All that remains is to crumble and serve!
